Five Minute Friday: Ready -- Stepping Out in Faith

Today is my second time participating in the Five Minute Friday writing challenge.
Every Thursday evening a new word is posted, prompting bloggers to write for five minutes on that word without worrying about grammar, punctuation, etc. If you would like to join the fun, visit Kate's blog here! =)
Today's word is: ready.

There are times when I don't feel ready to do what God has called me to do. It is tempting to crawl back into my comfort zone in order to "prepare" a bit more before stepping out into the scary unknown.

And that is okay -- to a certain extent. God does want us to go through years of testing, of trials, of preparation before we are completely equipped.

But I can feel those seasons coming to an end. I can feel God gently tugging on my heart telling me that I am ready. It is almost time.

The thing is, I can't argue with Him. He knows far more than I do.

Just like Peter, I have to keep my eyes on Jesus. I can't look at the treacherous waves crashing around me, reminding me that I am attempting to accomplish the impossible, or else I'll sink.

But if I keep my eyes on Jesus? Anything can happen. Before I know it, I'll be walking on water, doing the impossible.

And all because I took that leap of faith.

Do I feel ready? No. Do I feel qualified? Not at all.

But that's not the point. When God tells us to step out, we can trust that He will be there to catch us if we fall.

That is what I am ready for: To watch and see how God will use me when I finally do take that step of faith. To trust in His abilities rather than my own.

Sure, I would love to tell God that I am not qualified, that I just can't face that right now. It's too frightening. Too unlikely to succeed.

But God gently takes me by the hand and tells me to trust in Him. That He knows far more than I. That I can face anything through Him, including the frightening unknown.

And that, yes. I am ready.

  1. Great thoughts! God will equip us to what he has called us to do. It's hard to be ready for that at times. Welcome to FMF. :)

    1. Exactly! I believe that God qualifies the called rather than calls the qualified. That means we can trust that whatever He is asking us to do, we will be able to accomplish it. But only if we keep our eyes on Him.

  2. What a beautiful blog post :) I love what you said about not feeling 'qualified' - that's SO ME. I always feel like when I'm called to write a post or something, like 'WHY ME. I SUCK, JESUS!'.

It's so awesome what God puts in our hands.

  4. Yes, I've been putting off and avoiding somethings for too too long now… And all because I'm fearful and doubt my own ability. Thanks for the encouraging reminder to have faith and know that HE is able.
