Five Minute Friday: Whisper

Today is my first post in Five Minute Friday's weekly writing challenge, hosted by Kate Motaung.

This week's word is: whisper.

Wow .... It's kind of coincidental that as I write this, the song "In Your Arms" by Meredith Andrews just started playing on my Spotify. {Click here to read the lyrics to this song.}

Do you think God is trying to get a point across?

We live in a world that has become addicted to action. Thanks to TV and social media, our attention spans have shortened. We now have to always be on the go, filling our lives with something, anything

Yet in the midst of all this, we crowd God out of our lives, then wonder why He never speaks to us like He does with other people.

The sad thing is--when we become burnout from this hectic lifestyle, we tend to seek other people and things to bring us what only Christ can offer.

Stressed? Sign up for a yoga class. Tired? Buy a coffee.

And when we do finally have some down time in the evenings, we tend to fill our time with catching up on social media rather than with our personal Savior.

Just like that line from the above song says, all of this noise replaces God's whisper. It isn't until we spend time with Him--and actually spend time with Him, not just check off a chapter on our Bible reading plan app--can we hear the gentle voice of His Spirit.

And that whisper will provide just what we need to face the rest of our day.

Yes, even more so than a yoga class. ;)

"This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: 'In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength..."
~Isaiah 30:15 (NIV)
"Be still and know that I am God..."
~Psalm 46:10 (NIV)

  3. Tessa, this was exactly what I needed to hear today. Thank you for this beautiful reminder that before I can hear God's whisper, I need to actively try to block out the noise that distracts me from Him.

  4. In our modern day world, especially as a teenager,we can be so focused on trends and texts that we forget to take time to be still and listen for His still small voice. This post has been a great reminder to do just that! Thanks Tessa!
    Also, thanks for commenting on Inklined!
