I think it's completely fine to go...Hi, Naomi!

I think it's completely fine to go to a conference without the intention of pitching. There are people, however, who would advise to wait until you have a manuscript to pitch. If I did that, then I wouldn't have met my publisher for Purple Moon. Just saying! ;) (The first draft of the book was complete, but it was in rough draft form. I had to revise and edit it before I sent the manuscript to my publisher, as he requested at the conference.)

There is so much a writer can gain from a conference. Yes, it can get pricey--so sometimes it is wise to save your money until you will gain more from the experience by pitching to agents/editors.

But I recommend attending one as often as you can. I've benefitted greatly from each one I've been to--even the ones when I didn't have anything to pitch (which have been most of them!). It's similar to a college experience: You're surrounded by like-minded individuals, studying the same field, and learning from professionals 24/7. It's a dream. <3

My favorite conference is the Blue Ridge Mountain Christian Writer's Conference, which is the one I'm attending in a couple weeks. It's also where I met my publisher when I was 16. I love the laid back atmosphere, the location of the blue ridge mountains. Everything about it is perfect. It's actually the only "big" Christian conference I've attended, so I'm sure others are great as well.

I hope you'll be able to go to one some day! Let me know if/when you do. =)

TessaTessa Emily Hallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08625256104634830104noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7093187878739089807.post-11286092839571502542016-05-04T15:00:01.527-07:002016-05-04T15:00:01.527-07:00What would your opinion be of attending a writers ...What would your opinion be of attending a writers conference just to learn and meet people but not pitching? (If that makes sense...)
I haven't attended a writers conference yet but I hope too one day! :-) Of all the conferences you've attended which did you like best?Naomihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10148388337994362163noreply@blogger.com
